Its official, summer is coming to an end and the kids are headed back to school. By now you have probably started (or finished for you over-achievers) the back-to-school clothing shopping and checked off those items on the school supply list. But have you completed any home projects to help the school year go smoothly? Wait, home projects? Yes! The school year comes with lots of stress and hectic schedules for the entire family. But, with a little organization and planning, your home can offer you some relief. Here are a couple of easy projects you can do around your home to get ready.
Create a designated homework station for each child. Homework stations are great for providing a space that is free from distractions and have homework supplies such as pens, pencils, rulers, etc. in one spot. Having a designated spot that is stocked with homework must-haves are great for not only keeping your child focused on learning but can also cut homework time down.
Sports gear station! The start of the school year also brings with it all the sports and extracurricular activities. You all know what usually happens, after a game or practice, the kids come running in the house and drop all of their dirty uniforms, shoes and gear at the front door as soon as they walk in, or even better, they leave trails of sports gear throughout the house. When it’s time for the next days’ practice, usually there is a shoe missing or only part of the uniform made it into the wash. Placing a sports station in your mudroom, front entry or laundry room can easily eliminate the mass messes and keep everyone organized. Stock it with cubbies for shoes, spots for helmets and other gear and even a laundry basket for dirty uniforms. Your kids aren’t playing sports? No problem, you can customize the space for umbrellas, backpacks, coats and boots!
